ATHENS--- Bartholomew Nobility of Athens
died peacefully at home Friday, July 30, 2004 in the loving care of his family
following a lengthy illness.
Born in Clough, County Galway, Ireland, he
was the youngest child of James and Mary (Hansberry) Nobilly.
Bart was a graduate of St. Colman’s,
Cummer and St. Jarlath’s Argricultural College, Mountbellow, County Galway,
Ireland. He received extensive agricultural training in Ireland before
emigrating to the United States in 1946. He retired in 1977 from Warner-Lambert
Pharmaceutical Company of Long Island City, NY as a supply supervisor.
Mr. Nobilly has been an Athens resident
since 1978. He was a communicant at St. Patrick’s R.C. Church in Catskill and
St. Bridget’s Church in Leeds.
Bart is survived by his wife of nearly 54
years, Catherine (Cunningham) Nobilly of Athens; his loving daughter, Mary
Frances Hatton and son-in-law Gene Hatton of Athens; cherished grandsons Gerard
and Michael Hatton of Athens; a sister-in-law, Beatrice Nobilly of Cold Springs,
NY; as well as several nieces and nephews and cousins throughout the United
States and Ireland.
Calling hours will be held at the Traver
& McCurry Funeral Home, 234 Jefferson Heights, Catskill, on Monday, Aug. 2
from 4 to 8 p.m.
Funeral services will be held 9:30 to 10:30
a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, followed by a 11:00 a.m. Mass of Christian
Burial at St. Patrick’s R.C. Church, Bridge Street, Catskill. The Rev. John J.
Murphy, pastor, will officiate. Interment will follow at St. Patrick’s
Cemetery in Catskill.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in
Bart’s memory to the Memorial Fund of St. Patrick’s Church, 19 North
Franklin Street, Athens, NY 12015.

WALTER J. MARSH
Former Catskill resident
FT. MYERS, FLA--- Walter J. Marsh, 89, of
Ft. Myers, Fla., died on July 31, 2004 at Hope Hospice South.
Born on March 20, 1915 in Yonkers, the only
child of Walter and Catherine Marsh Sr.
A resident of Ft. Myers since 1961, he had
previously lived in Catskill. He was educated in Yonkers and graduated from high
school in 1932 in Cairo, where he was the class valedictorian.
Mr. Marsh was employed as a manager and
purchasing agent in the lumber industry for 33 years before his retirement in
1979.
A member of the Church of the Resurrection
of Our Lord. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, San Carlos Council
No. 2596, Ft. Myers. He was also active with the Knights of Columbus in Catskill
where he served as the Grand Knight.
Mr. Marsh is survived by his wife of 68
years, Catherine Marsh, his son, John W. (Linda G.) Marsh of Aiken, S.C., two
daughters, Katherine M. Chappelle of Ft. Myers, Fla., his grandchildren, Cindy
Marsh, Greg (Nancy) Marsh, Sherrie (Gus) Bengochea, Wendy (Michael) Mathwich,
Rob Brown, Bill Young, Michael (Christine) Young, Robert (Barbara) Bacon III,
Kelly (Chris) Kendrick and Roger (Karolyn) Bacon and 15 great grandchildren.
He was the father of the late Jane E. Lamb,
who died in 2001.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be
celebrated 11:00 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 5, 2004 at the Church of the Resurrection.
Entombment will follow in the Ft. Myers
Memorial Gardens.
Calling hours will be 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday
in the Ft. Myers Memorial Gardens Funeral Home.

WEST COXSACKIE --- Dorothy P. Nelson, 82, of
106 Bethany Village, West Coxsackie, died July 31, 2004, at the home of her
daughter Cecile J. Clarke after a long illness.
She was born March 27, 1922 in New York City
and was the daughter of the late Jack and Cecile (Alex) Mackey.
Mrs. Nelson had been area resident of Greene
County for 25 years living in Greenville, Cornwallville, and the West Coxsackie
area.
Mrs. Nelson was a member of the First
Reformed Church of West Coxsackie and loved caring for birds.
During her years of employment she was a
practical nurse and medical technician and was employed at Mother Cabrini
Hospital in New York City.
Survivors include three sons Nicholas
Silvestris of Wallkill, N.Y., Frank Silvestris of Chester, N.Y., and Robert
Silvestris of Purling, two daughters, Penny Rivenburg of Catskill and Jackie
Clark of Cairo, 18 grandchildren, and 17 great-grandchildren.
Besides her parents, Mrs. Nelson was
predeceased by her husband Richard Nelson.
Private cremation took place at the Albany
Rural Crematory in Menands.
A memorial service will take place 10 a.m.
Saturday, Aug. 7, 2004 at the First Reformed Church of West Coxsackie. The Rev.
Paul Peters, pastor, will officiate.
After the memorial service her remains will
be interred in the family plot of the Cornwallville Cemetery. Contributions in
her memory can be made to Community Hospice, 47 Liberty St., Catskill, N.Y.
12414. The day of the services, hospice envelopes can be obtained at the church.

JOHN HOLCOMB
Former Palenville resident
CRANFORD, NJ--- John Sherwood Holcomb, 75,
of Cranford, NJ, died on Tuesday, July 27, 2004, due to complications from brain
tumor surgery.
Born in Palenville Nov. 13, 1929 he was the
son of J. Hobart and Ethel Hobbs Holcomb.
After serving in the US Army Mr. Holcomb was
employed by Merck Pharmaceuticals in New Jersey until his retirement due to
illness.
Survivors include his son, Sean of Cranford,
NJ; his sister, Jean H. Antonelli of Catskill and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife, Mary Scanlan
Holcomb of Cranford, NJ; his parents; and a sister, Shirley H. Wadagnolo of
Catskill.
A memorial service was held Friday, July 30
in Cranford.
Interment will be at the convenience of the
family in the Holcomb family plot in Jefferson Heights, Catskill.

KINGSTON--- Miriam Rowe, 84, formerly of
Lawrenceville St., Kingston, NY, died Friday, July 30, 2004, Golden Hill Health
Care Center, Kingston.
Mrs. Rowe was born June 26, 1920 in
Newburgh, N.Y., the daughter of the late Walter Kelly and Lorna Rowland Kelly.
Mrs. Rowe was married to the late Giles B.
Rowe who died Feb. 27, 1988.
She was a homemaker. She enjoyed sewing,
crocheting and needle crafts.
Survivors include one daughter, Doreen C.
Thomas of Kingston; a son, Dennis Rowe of Accord; four grandchildren; and one
great-grandson also survived.
Mrs. Rowe is predeceased by two brothers,
Virgil Winnie and Richard Winnie.
Funeral services and burial will be
conducted in the Shandaken Rural Cemetery and will be private at the discretion
of the family.

BLAIR W. PLYLER
Avid hunter and angler
VALDOSTA, GA--- Blair W. Plyler, 82, of
Ormond Beach, Fla., lost his battle with cancer on Aug. 2, 2004.
Born in Ridgway, Pa., on May 15, 1922, Blair
was the son of Lorenzo and Elizabeth Plyler.
He was a master sergeant in the U.S. Air
Force for 27 years. After retiring in May 1970, he moved from Colorado Springs,
Colo., to Ormond Beach, Fla., where he resided with his wife Barbara.
Blair loved fishing, hunting, gardening and
especially loved the New York Yankees.
Survivors include his wife Barbara; one son,
Robert of Kodiak, Alaska; four daughters: Jill Short of West Coxsackie, Pamela
Young of DeRidder, La., Becky Woods of Mount Marion and Melissa Almandarez of
DeRidder, La.; one stepdaughter, Linda Booker of Valdosta, Ga., 12
grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Jane
F. Plyler.
Arrangements will be private and cremation
will be done by the Carson McLane Funeral Home in Valdosta, Ga.

ATHENS--- Kenneth F. Williams, 63, of 58 N.
Washington St., Athens, died Aug. 1, 2004, at Eden Park Health Care Center,
Catskill, where he had been a resident since July 9, 2004.
Born Feb. 21, 19441, he was the son of the
late George H. and Agnes G. (Muchler) Williams.
Mr. Williams was a lifetime area resident of
Athens, a member of the Athens Paddock Club and he loved to bowl and hunt. He
recently retired from the Greene County Highway Department.
Survivors include three daughters, and three
step-daughters; four sisters, Betty Lyons, Joan Wilson, Agnes Mergendahl and
Mary Gransbury; and many grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his wife, Brenda
Williams on March 13, 2004.
Private cremation will take place on
Saturday at the Albany Rural Crematorium in Menands.
Calling hours are Friday, 4 to 7 p.m. at the

CAIRO--- Brian J. Ahearn, 47, of Route 145,
Cairo, died suddenly, Aug. 2, 2004, at the Columbia Memorial Hospital Emergency
Room, Hudson.
Born in the Bronx July 16, 1957, he was the
son of the late Harry and Marjorie (Mulhern) Ahearn.
Mr. Ahearn had been a resident of Cairo for
the past 18 years. He was a member of the Union Local 155 of Poughkeepsie and a
communicant of the Sacred Heart Church of Cairo. He was a well-known dry wall
taper and took part in the World Trade Center construction and the renovation of
the Statue of Liberty.
Survivors include his wife of 21 years, Gale
A. (Ruscito) Ahearn of Cairo; a son, Matthew and a daughter, Veronica Ahearn,
both of Cairo; four brothers, Daniel Ahearn of Maryland, Kevin Ahearn of New
Jersey, James Ahearn of Palenville and Patrick Ahearn of Germany; two sisters,
Karen Zigmantinis and Donna Meyers, both of East Durham; and many nieces and
nephews.
Calling hours are Friday, 2 to 4 and 7 to 9

SOUTH CAIRO--- Emile J. Auger, 72, of 63
Novack Road, South Cairo, died suddenly Aug. 4, 2004 at Columbia Memorial
Hospital in Hudson after a brief illness.
Hew was born in Canada Aug. 19, 1931 and was
the son of the late Alcide and Marierose (Elie) Auger.
Mr. Auger had been an area resident since
1980, he formerly was of Evansville, Vt.
He was a communicant of the Sacred Heart
Church of Cairo, and loved dirt track racing at Lebanon Valley Speedway and the
outdoors.
Survivors include his wife of 44 years,
Estelle M. (Lussier) Auger of South Cairo, six children, Linda Blakslee and her
husband Brian of Concord, Vt., Carole Selner and her husband Joe of Round Top,
Doris Shastany and her companion John Fabrizio of Acra, Allen Auger and his wife
Barbara (Voulo) Auger of Cairo, Diane Auger and her fiancee Steven Bartholomew
of Cairo, and Rachel Campbell and her husband Gary of Round Top, two sisters,
Alma Boundreau and Mathilde Lareau of Canada, also 11 grandchildren and many
nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Mr. Auger is
predeceased by a sister Monique Paradise.

104 Wildwing Park, Catskill, died Friday, August 6, 2004 at Columbia Memorial
Hospital in Hudson.
Born June 23, 1927 in Albany, New York, she
was the daughter of the late Maurice and Gladys (Roast) Paddock.
Louise was employed as an executive
secretary at the Coxsackie Correctional Facility prior to her retirement in
October, 1988. She was a member of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Catskill.
She enjoyed the ballet and horse racing at Saratoga and loved gardening and
being with friends and family.
Survivors include her husband, Walter Sutter
of Catskill; a daughter, Maurine Sutter of Northampton, Massachusetts; a sister,
Ruth Billetter of Lenox, Massachusetts; a granddaughter, Erika Sutter of
Manhattan; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a brother, James
Paddock, in 2000.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on
Thursday, August 12 at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, William Street, Catskill.
Fr. Michael Gorchov, Rector, will be officiating. Interment will follow at the
Town of Catskill Cemetery.

of Leeds, formerly of Tannersville, died August 5, 2004 at St. Peter’s
Hospital in Albany.
Born in Queens, NY, she was the daughter of
the late Robert and Ruth Hockenberger Van Ripen.
She was a retired U.S. Postmaster with over
20 years of service.
Survivors include her companion, Richard Opp
of Leeds; two daughters, Stacia Ann Topping of Reno, Nevada and Adrienne Beth
Topping and her husband Philippe Zimmerman of Milburn, New Jersey and three
grandchildren, Sophie Rose, Corinne Ruth and Jacob Benjamin Zimmerman.
Calling hours will be Sunday, Aug. 8 from 2
to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Aston Basagic Funeral Home, 7742 Main Street,

CATSKILL--- Jerome Hartman, 82, of DelRay
Beach , Florida, formerly of Catskill, died on July 18, 2004.
Born in Catskill, he was the son of the late
Ethel and Benn Hartman.
Mr. Hartman was the owner of Hartman’s
Jewelry Store at the corner of Main and Thompson Streets in Catskill until his
retirement in 1986. He owned stores in Hudson and Pittsfield, Mass. as well.
He was often seen on Main Street walking to and from Fran’s Specialty
Shop owned and operated by his wife Frances from 1955 to 1986. The original
Hartman’s Jewelry Store was established by his father in 1920.
Mr. Hartman was a veteran of World War I,
having served in the Philippines. He was an avid golfer, a member of Gleneagles
Country Club in Florida and of the Catskill Golf Club in Catskill. He was also a
member of the Masons and the Elks.
Prior to his retirement, he served on the
Board of Managers of the Greene County Memorial Hospital, was chairman of the
Greene County Economic Development Group, was active in the Greene County
Merchants Group, served on the board of Hudson Binai Brith and was past
president of Temple Israel.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years,
Frances Hartman; three sisters Mildred Joseph, Rita Schiller and Diane Spasaro;
two children, Barbara Baum of Syracuse and Phillip Hartman of San Francisco; six
grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

COXSACKIE - Kathleen M. Cohen, 58, of
Coxsackie, died suddenly Aug. 6, 2004 at home with her loving husband of 33
years, Raymond A. Cohen at her side.
She was born Dec.
23, 1946, at Brady Hospital in Albany the beloved daughter of the late Arthur C.
Pelton and Katherine E. Pelton (Barney).
While living in Rensselaer and later moving to Albany she attended Our Lady Help of Christians School and later Mercy High. Through her adult years, she enjoyed competing in car racing at Lebanon Valley Speeday in the 1970's, at that time Powder Puff Race for females, and competed in the drags.
She moved to
Greene County and ran three businesses that were successful. Whatever career she
pursued, she gave it her all.
She loved music, was very artistic and
enjoyed dancing, antiques, boating and C.B.'s. She also became involved at
various rallies to support our Troops.
Survivors include her mother-in-law Florence
H. Cohen, her brothers, Donald C. Pelton and Arthur W. Pclton Sr. of Coxsackie,
niece Sandra J. Pelton, nephew Arthur W. Pelton Jr. as well as many grand nieces
and nephews.
She was predeceased by Abraham Cohen.
Private cremation will take place at the
Albany Rural Crematorium in Menands.
Interment of her remains will be held at a later date at
Our Lady of Help Christians
Cemetery.

- Vincent R. Manning, 22, a former resident of Climax, for the past 18
years, now making his residence at 206 Division Street, Schenectady, died
suddenly Aug. 7, 2004, at his residence due to a fire.
He
was born in Yonkers Sept. 25., 1981, and is the son of John K. and Kirma C.
(Balsinte) Manning of Climax.
Prior
to his death, he was employed as a clerk in a local supermarket.
Mr. Manning was a
graduate of Greenville High School, and was very active in Little League
baseball, and basketball, which he played at St. Patrick's in Catskill. He loved
video games and fishing.
Besides his
parents, he is survived by four brothers, John Manning of Ravena, Kenneth and
Christopher Manning of Climax, Brian Manning of Beacon, N.Y., three sisters
Jaime Lolkema. of Hyde Park, N.Y., Mia Manning of N.J., Ena Manning of
Schenectady, and many cousins, nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.
Surviving is his paternal grandmother Jean
Manning of Poughkeepsie.
His paternal
grandfather John R. Manning pre-deceased him and maternal grandparents Raymond
and Ruffina Balsinte. He is predeceased by his infant son Vincent Manning II on
Aug. 7, 2004.

Mary (Mayo) VanDyke, 61, of Cauterskill Road, Catskill, died suddenly Aug. 7,
2004 after a short illness at Albany Medical Center.
Born Sept. 8, 1942,
at Bellevue Hospital in Manhattan, she was raised in Cairo with her brother
Donald K. Mayo until moving to Catskill in 1968.
She was predeceased
by both her parents.
Mrs. Van Dyke was a
registration clerk at Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson.
She was an active
member of the Catskill Garden Club and the Friends of the Catskill Library. She
was also a past member of the Cairo-Durham “Lady Elks”, as well as the
Ladies Auxiliary of the Leeds Fire Department.
Survivors include her husband Lloyd Van Dyke
of Catskill, her daughters Rose Vining and her husband James of Claverack,
Jennifer Miller and her husband Brian of Catskill, her son, Lloyd Van Dyke of
Catskill, her grandchildren, Joshua, Christopher, Gregory, Kaitlyn, and Meagan
Vining of Claverack, and Brian Miller of Catskill, her cousin Charles Calcagno,
her nephews, Franklin Mayo of Washington, Robert Clinkenbeard of Texas, her
nieces, Kelly Mayo of Oregon, Connie Gentle of Texas, as well as several
great-nieces and nephews.

Park Health Care Center, Catskill, died Aug. 8, 2OO4, at the Eden Park Health
Care Center in Catskill.
She was born in New
York City, July_12, 1913, and was the daughter of. the late Otto and Martha
(Lange) Krueger.
Most of her life
Gertrude was a health care giver.
She had been an area resident for 13 years
and she loved knitting and crocheting.

nephews, Arthur Birtner of Pa., Bernard Krueger of Long Island, Donald and
Kenneth Krueger both of Ca., and many grand nieces and grand nephews. She was
also survived by many friends of the Eden Park Health Care Center, where she has
been a resident of since June 5, 2003.
Besides her parents
she is predeceased by two brothers H~ and Bernard Krueger and a sister Edith
Birtner.

Born in Germany, Nov. 29, 1910, Mrs.
Warrings loved knitting, needlepoint, ,German music, dancing, gardening, and
cooking. She was a member of the Resurrection Lutheran Church of Cairo.
Survivors include her son Egon Brockmann of
Blairstown, NJ; a daughter Silke Schmeelk of Round Top; seven grandchildren and
ten great grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her ; husband Heinz
Warrings; daughter, Rosa Kieweg; son, Heinz Warrings; and a granddaughter, Nancy
Young.
Private cremation took place at the Albany
Rural Crematorium in Menands.

Prior to her retirement, she was employed
for the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance in Albany.
She was a member of the Coxsackie Republican
Club, a lifelong resident of Coxsackie, a communicant of St. Mary’s church, a
member of The Steuben Society. She loved dogs, horses, and was an avid gardener
and reader.
Survivors include her son Charles and his
wife Helena Antonelli of Albany, two grandchildren Paul Antonelli of Amsterdam
and Stephanie Longstaff of Albany, three great-grandchildren Brooke Longstaff of
Albany, Austin Longstaff of Albany, and Nicholas Antonelli of Amsterdam.

She was an LPN for 25 years at Albany
Medical Center and more recently Child’s Nursing Home.
She was a member of the Dormansville United
Methodist Church, and was also the church treasurer, a member of the United
Methodist Women and the Hiawatha Grange. She had a special love for cats.
Survivors include her two sisters Magdaline
Tailman of Resnnelareville and Janice Bodish of Medusa; her two brothers,
Lawrence “Buzz” Baitsholts of Missoula, MT., and Robert Baitsholts of the
state of Washington, cousins, Ruth Chamberlain, formerly of Dormansville,
Francis Zinzow of Selkirk, and Fred Chamberlain Jr., of Delmar, and many nieces
and nephews. Also surviving is her long time companion Frances Swart of
Dormansville, N.Y.

Thomas A. Coughlin III and John J. Coughlin.
She is survived by
her daughter Helen Lathan of Brooklyn, a sister Stella J. Sauer of Queens, six
grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and a niece.

Carlene Jones Starr, 87, died Thursday, April 1, 2004, at Hope Hospice of Shell
Point, in Fort Meyers, Fla. She was a longtime resident of Catskill until she
moved to Fort Myers in July 2001.
She was born on
June 18, 1916, in Oneida, NY, the daughter of the late Anson R. Jones and Ethel
Mortice Jones. She was a graduate of Otega Central High School, and since her
graduation from the State University College of Teachers at Buffalo in 1947, she
enjoyed many years of teaching in the public schools, until her retirement in
1973.
She was a loyal
member of the First Reformed Church of Catskill, where she served on numerous
committees, including the Women’s Guild of Christian Service, teaching Sunday
School, and was their first woman Deacon.
She was an Honorary
member of the Fortnightly Club, where she served as Secretary and Treasurer, a
member of the Gretchens Club, the Atakekas, and the Monday Club. Other local
groups benefiting from her interests were the Girl Scouts, the U.S. Census
Bureau, Meals on Wheels, and the Department for the Aging.
She was predeceased
by her brother Clyde “Bud” A. Jones, on May 16, 2001.
She
was devoted mother and grandmother, and is survived by her daughter Pamela
Starr, formerly of Fort Myers, Fla., grandson Chad Chouinard of Framingham,
mass., sister-in-law Carol Becker Jones of Catskill, niece Cynthia Daley of
Averill Park, nephews Jeffrey Jones of Catskill and Gregory Jones of Albany, as
well as several great-nieces and nephews.
A
Memorial Service will be conducted at the First Reformed Church in Catskill on
Friday, Aug. 20, 2 p.m., followed by a committal in the family plot the Catskill
Rural Cemetery. Private cremation was conducted in Florida.

Mrs. McNaught was a sister that never stopped sharing, a mother who never
stopped loving, a grandmother who was great at spoiling, and a friend who never
stopped giving and a lady who continued to smile.
She had been
involved with the Cairo Methodist Church and enjoyed arts and crafts as well as
traveling to see her children. Her fun loving and outgoing nature is going to be
greatly missed by all who knew her.

sister, Frances Leary of Saratoga, a son, Thomas Soule of Round Top; daughters,
Arlene Ryytty of Florida, and Rachel Hildebrand of Oka.; 11 grandchildren and

he was a member of the Saugerties Athletic Association, a member of the
“Glasco AC” Softball Team that won League Championships 1962, 1965, 1966,
1970, and 1973-1977. He was a former member of the SAA Halfcourt Basketball
League and an avid golfer and a Yankee fan.

in Hartford, Conn., Mrs. Rhinehart was the daughter of the late Frederick and
Emily Scoville Logan and had lived in Catskill since her marriage to Alvah
Rhinehardt on May 28, 1956.
Mrs. Rhinehart is
survived by her nephew, Robert C. Rhinehart of Catskill, several great nieces
and nephews as well as her dear friend, Edna Bloom of Catskill.
She was predeceased
by her husband on June 7, 1970.

in Brooklyn she was the daughter of the late Robert and Ann (Wulff) Dooling.
Mrs. Sharkey was
employed as a bookkeeper for Howard Printing in Manhattan. A Palenville resident
since 1985, she was an active member of the Simpson Memorial Methodist Church, a
Sunday School teacher, church treasurer, Pastor Parish Relations chairperson and
Parsonage Committee chairperson. She was a former Girl Scout Leader and most
recently, prior to her illness, she was a substitute teacher for the Catskill
Central School District.
Survivors include
her husband, John J. Sharkey of Palenville; a son, Jack Sharkey of Palenville;
daughter, Caitlin Sharkey of Palenville; a sister, Kathleen Pernice and husband

Survivors include a

Catskill and Muriel Cooke of Athens; and several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Maher was
predeceased by her twin brother Cosmo Cooke, Anthony Cooke, Louis Cooke, Michael

Wilbur E. Albright, 89, of Hannacroix, died Aug. 19, 2004 at The Firemen’s
Home in Hudson, where he has been a resident since March 18, 2003.
He was born in
Hannacroix on May 23, 1915, and was the son of the late Clarance and Elizabeth (LeJune)
Albright.
Mr. Albright was
the former owner and operator of the C. A. Albright Sons Garage and Fuel Oil
Company from 1850 to 1975.
He was a member of
the Coxsackie Masons Ark Lodge F & AM No. 48, and a member of Cornell Hook
and Ladder. He loved bowling, golf and most of all he loved softball.
Survivors include
his daughter, Mrs. Michael (Judy) Lent of Hannacroix, Mrs. John (Donna) Degnen
of West Coxsackie, a son, Eugene Albright and daughter-in-law Jeannene of
Hannacroix, and Mrs. Earl (Kim) Hotaling of Coxsackie, a sister, Mrs. Steve
(Elsie) Batza of Hannacroix, 11 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

A graduate of
Saugerties High School Mrs. Matteson held various occupations included as the
retail manager at the former Jamesway Department Store in Catskill.
She was the wife of
the late Robert Daniel Matteson who predeceased her on May 16, 1992.
Survivors include
four children. Mrs. Allan (Debra) Zwoboda of Catskill, Mrs. Charles (Diane)
Raffiani of Catskill, Daniel J. Matteson and David John Matteson, both of
Catskill; ten grandchildren; one great-grandson; as well as several nieces and
nephews.
In addition to her
husband, she was predeceased by four sisters and four brothers.
Private cremation
was conducted at Albany Rural Crematorium on Aug. 24 under the direction of the
Millspaugh Camerato Funeral Home, 139 Jefferson Heights, Catskill.
A committal service
will be held Monday, Aug. 30 at the Town of Catskill Cemetery. Those attending
may meet at the funeral home at 11 a.m. for procession to the cemetery. Rev.

Born July 8, 1928
in Brooklyn, N.Y. he was the son of the late Edward and Mary Barr and brother of
the late Edward Barr.
Mr. Barr was the
loving and caring husband of
Marilyn for the past 55 years.
Mr. Barr served in
the Merchant Marines and the US Army. He was a lineman for the Long Island
Lighting Company and worked for IBEW Local 25 until retirement. He was a member
of the Masons Lodge No. 56, the Eagles, the Moose Lodge, the Elks, the VFW and
the Palenville Fire Department.
Survivors include
his wife; sister-in-law, Eleanor Barr of Floral Park; daughters, Lynda White and
husband Dennis of Daytona Beach Shores, Patricia Garrison and husband Chet of
Palenville; son, Robert Barr of Palenville; grandchildren, Byran and Justin

for 23 years in the Greene County Department of Health retiring in April 2003.

She was the wife of
the late Lansing Thorne who predeceased her 1958.
She devoted the
next 32 years to raising her four children and had been an employee of J. J.
Newberry’s in Catskill.
Survivors include
four children: Mary Ann Thorne, Kathleen Thorne, Lance Thorne, all of Catskill,
and Ronald Thorne of Athens; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three
sister: Marion Lucas, Elizabeth Robinson and Ruth Thorne; as well as several
nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased
by five brothers in addition to her parents and husband.

racing.

Hoboken, N.J., on July 16, 1915, he was the son of the late Primo and Amanda
Fontata Calcaterra.
In 1937 Mr.
Calcaterra enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He served in Europe and Asia on the USS
Neches, USS Beaver, USS Piedmont, and the US New Hampshire. He was honorably

Mr. Calcaterra was
a life member of the Joyce-Schirick Post 1386, Veterans of Foreign Wars,
Kingston and the Disabled American Veterans, Palenville.
A longtime resident
of Greenwich Village, Manhattan, for 18 years, Mr. Calcaterra was the chief copy
cutter and linotype operator for the N.Y. Daily News.
In 1972 he moved to
Palenville and was a parishioner of Sacred Heart Church. A resident of Penstock
Lane, Lake Katrine since 1984, he was a parishioner of St. Joseph’s Church,
Kingston. Mr. Calcaterra recently moved to Newtown, Conn.
Survivors include
one son, Dennis Calcaterra of Aurora, Colo., one daughter, Jo Ann Durdock of New
Milford, Conn., six grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, several nieces and
nephews.
Mr. Calcaterra was
predeceased by his wife Irene T. Calcaterra on Aug. 4, 2003; two brothers, Paul
and John Calcaterra.
Calling hours will
be 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Simpson-Gaus Funeral Home, 411 Albany
Ave., Kingston.
The funeral will be
9:15 a.m. Wednesday from the funeral home. A funeral mass will be celebrated
10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Sacred Heart Church, Palenville.
Interment will be
in the Palenville Cemetery.

Frank Daniel Brown, 104, of 9 Peter Bronck Road, West Coxsackie, died Monday,
Aug. 30, 2004, at Barnwell Health Facility in Valatie.
Born in Brooklyn
March 9, 1899, he was the son of the late Edward and Johanna Brown.
During World War II
Mr. Brown served with the U.S. Army and prior to his retirement he was employed
as an inspector with the American Valve Company of Coxsackie and he was also an
area resident of Coxsackie for more than 85 years.
Funeral

MELBOURNE,
Fla.—Frances Lott Mazzeo, 69, died at her residence.
She was born on
Aug. 30, 1934, to Leon and Catherine Dunham in Hensonville. She was predeceased
by her parents.
She was a graduate
of Windham-Ashland-Jewett High School and attended Albany Business College. Her
parents were the former owners of Leon’s Restaurant in Hensonville. She moved
to Florida in 2003.
Survivors include
her daughter, Kathleen Howell of Indialantic, Fla., her siblings ellen Wood of
W. Melbourne, Fla., and brother James Dunham of New Bern, N.C., her
grand-daughter Cassidy Joy Howell and 14 nieces and nephews.
Graveside services
will take place 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 11 at the Pleasant Valley Cemetery,
Ashland.

VINCENT J. NEESON
Former Haines Falls Resident
ALBANY--- Vincent
J. Neeson, 71, died suddenly Friday Aug. 27, 2004 at his residence.
Born in Manhattan
he was the son of the late Thomas J. Neeson, retired Battalion Chief of the NYFD
and the late Mary A. Cahill Neeson.
Mr. Neeson was a 20
year resident of Albany. Prior to that he resided in Haines Falls from
1963-1984.
He was the
cherished and constant companion and caregiver to his late mother until the time
of her death on October 20, 2002.
An avid fan of the
New York Jets, Brooklyn Dodgers and the Detroit Red Wings, he also enjoyed
painting.
As a young man he
was a member of the NYCFD Auxiliary. He was also one of the first members to
join Haines Falls Volunteer Fire Department.
He held a special
place in his heart for the men and women who serve in law enforcement, fire
safety, the military and American veterans organizations. He dedicated his life
to caring for others and he will be remembered for his constant smile and
pleasant manner.
He was the brother
of Thomas P. (Ruth) Neeson of Thompson Ridge, N.Y.; Francis J. (Maureen) Neeson
or Pearl River, N.Y.; Helen A. (Harry) Mooney of Albany; Cecilia T. (Phillip
Emanuel) of Columbus, Ohio, Matthew C. (Terry) Neeson of Albany, Peter X.
(Peggy) Neeson of Staten Island and the late Josephine A., Marie G. and Joseph
Neeson; sister-in-law of Geraldine Neeson; sister-in-law Geraldine Neeson of
Staten Island; nephew of James M. and Catherine Cahill of East Jewett; also
survived by 27 nieces and nephews, 31 grand-nieces and nephews and numerous
cousins.
Calling hours will
be 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Daniel Keenan Funeral Home, 490 Delaward Ave.,
Albany.
Funeral services
will be held 8:15 a.m. Wednesday from the funeral home, then to St. Theresa of
Avila Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9 a.m.

JEWETT--- Robert
Clifford Thompson, or “Rocky” to his family and friends, died at the stroke
of midnight Saturday, Aug. 28. He was surrounded by the loving embrace of his
loving wife and soul mate of 36 years Pamela, and his children Clifton, Rebecca
and Jennifer.
He was born March
31, 1948 in Catskill.
He was a plumber by
trade. His passions included the ponies, casinos, country music and travel. He
was an avid sportsman and looked forward to hunting season every year. Most of
all he enjoyed the precious time with his grandchildren Justin, Breanna, Lauren,
C.J., Marissa, Taylor and Brandon.
He is also survived
by his father, Clifford Hall Thompson of Jewett; sisters, Barbara Andrus of
Niskayuna, Elizabeth Holdridge of Florida, Jeanne Soule of Jewett, and Peggy
Rappelyea of Lexington.
He was predeceased
by his mother Agnes Brinkman Thompson and his brother Clifton Thompson.
Memorial services
will be held Friday, Sept. 3, 2004, 10 a.m. at the Jewett Presbyterian Church,
county Route 17.
