LAWRENCE D. KENNEDY

Lawrence D. Kennedy, 63, on July 31, 2006. after a long illness. Mrs. Kennedy was the son of Shirley Ross. He was a foreman with CXS Railroad, retiring after 30 years. He had served in the U.S. Air Force from 1962 to 1966. He was an avid bowler. Mr. Kennedy was a former member of the Third Reformed Church in Albany, but most recently a member of the Clarksville Community Church.

He is the husband of Phyllis Kennedy; father of Christine (Dan) Petterson of Colechester, VT, Scott (Marguierte) Kennedy of Hannacroix, and the late Holly Fox. Brother of Marshall Kennedy, Maureen Margan, and Dale. Grandfather of Kasey Fox, Autumn Holly Petterson and Abigail Kennedy.

Friends were invited to call Friday, 4 to 7 p.m. at the Durant Funeral Home, 17 Lanquish Pl., Glenmont. A service followed at 7 p.m. Interment at Gerald B.H. Solomon, Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville. Contributions may be made to the Society for Super Nuclear Progressive Palsy, 11350 McCormic Re. Suite 906, Hunt Valley, MD  21031.

ALFRED B. PREISNER

Alfred B. Preisner, 83, of Day Road, died Friday, August 11, 2006 at Ellis Hospital, after a short illness.

Mr. Preisner was born in Glassendorf, Germany, grew up in Greenville and moved to Schenectady in 1951. He had been a World War II veteran serving in the European Theatre, Belgium and the Battle of the Bulge. He was a General Electric graduate of the Apprentice Program and worked for 37 ½ years, retiring in 1984 as a planner in the Steam Turbine Department.

Mr. Preisner was a member of the Holiday Rambler RV Club, the Apprentice Alumni Club, Planner and Rate Setters Club and participated in craft shows as a woodworker.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Dorothy McCann Preisner. They married on November 27, 1948.

He leaves three daughters, Dorothy Valachovic of Rotterdam, Nancy (Larry) Olsen of Glen and Joan Preisner of Glenwood Springs, Colorado; one sister, Magdelena Britton of Rensselaerville; two granddaughters, Alicia Mirando and Colleen Olsen; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Ginter Preisner.

Funeral service was Monday morning at the Daly Funeral Home, Inc., Schenectady. Interment was at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Schenectady. Memorial contributions may be made to Community Hospice of Schenectady, 1411 Union St., Schenectady, NY  12308 or Alzheimer’s Association, 85 Watervliet Ave., Albany, NY  12206.

KEITH JAMES PEBLER, Jr.

Keith James Pebler, Jr., 19, died suddenly August 17, 2006 on his way to work, in a one vehicle automotive accident. He was a June 2006 graduate of Greenville Central High School and was preparing for entrance to Hudson Valley Community College, where he was hoping to begin an Associate’s Degree in Fine Arts. He was an accomplished sketch artist and worked at Blackthorn Resort.

He is survived by his father, Keith J. Pebler, Sr.; mother, Kate Smeland Pebler, RN (Freehold); and brothers and sisters, Jesse Arnold Pebler (Freehold), Jason and wife Amy Shear and children (Voorheesville), Robert Mercogliano (Vineland, New Jersey), Katelyn DeMatte (New York, New York); as well as many uncles, aunts and dear friends.

Cremation services were rendered by Richards Funeral Home in Cairo. Memorial service was held at the deceased’s home at 9423 Route 32, Freehold, New York, Saturday, August 19, with Rev. Warren Beeman of the Freehold Congregational Christian Church officiating.

STANLEY YUSKO

COXSACKIE---Stanley Yusko, age 82 years, of 123 South River Street, Coxsackie, died suddenly August 16, 2006 at Columbia Memorial Hospital, Hudson, NY.

He was born in Hudson, NY, May 25, 1924, and was the son of the late John and May (Pyndus) Yusko.

Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated by Rev. Fr. John Moyna, Pastor, at 9:00 a.m., at St. Mary’s R.C. Church, Coxsackie, on Saturday, August 19, 2006.

Interment followed in the family plot of The St. Mary’s Cemetery, Coxsackie, next to his first wife, Alice Yusko, with full military honors.

He had been a resident of Coxsackie for over 50 years. He served his country as a sergeant in the U.S. Army during WWII. He owned and operated The Yusko Plumbing and Heating Co. for over 50 years.

He was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church, a member of the Knight’s of Columbus, #548 of Coxsackie, a member of The American Legion Post #166 of Coxsackie, and is also very well known for his Little League coaching many years ago.

He is survived by his wife, Carolyn (Brockett) Yusko, for 16 years, of River St., Coxsackie. Also survived by a daughter, Mrs. Domenick (Jill) Costanzo of Coxsackie; a brother, Michael Yusko of Hudson; four grandchildren, Bryan, Jeffrey, Timothy and Kimberly. Also survived by three nephews, John, Michael and Robert Yusko.

Besides his parents and his wife, he was predeceased by a son, Timothy Yusko in 2003 and also his brother, Theodore Yusko.

Relatives and friends were cordially invited to attend calling hours at the W.C. Brady’s Sons, Inc. Funeral Home, 97 Mansion Street, Coxsackie, on Friday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.

ELSIE KATHERINE KLOSTERMANN

Elise Katherine (Hoelzer) Klostermann, 85, of Tigard, Oregon, died of natural causes on August 11, 2006. She was born in Broooklyn, New York on January 20, 1921.

She was a homemaker and lived on Long Island and in Westerlo, New York until moving to California in 1963, then to Oregon in 1982.

Elsie was predeceased by her husband, Walter, in 2000. Elsie and Walter married in 1942. She is also predeceased by a granddaughter, Katie Murray.

Elsie is survived by a daughter, Kittie Murray of Sherwood, Oregon; son, Bill Klostermann of Sherwood, Oregon; daughter-in-law, Donna Klostermann, of Sherwood, Oregon; granddaughter, Elise Murray of Sherwood, Oregon; grandson, Eric Klostermann of Sherwood, Oregon; also a sister, Gertrude Hartnett of New York.

Funeral service will be held at Cunningham’s Funeral Home, Greenville, New York, on Thursday, August 24, at 2 p.m.

KATHRINA D. MEYER

EAST DURHAM---Kathrina D. Meyer, 94 years, of East Durham, NY, passed away on Tuesday, August 22, 2006 at the Columbia-Greene Long Term Care in Catskill, NY. She was born in Flogen, Germany on Nov. 10. 1911, daughter of the late Heinrich and Maria (Meyer) Sengsaken. Kathrina came to the United States in 1929. Kathrina and her husband, Martin, left Greenport, Long Island and moved to East Durham, NY in 1971. Together they ran the Riverside Inn until their retirement. She belonged to numerous German organizations in Franklin Square in years past. She also was a member of the Durham Senior Citizens and AARP. Kathrina was well known in the East Durham area. Kathrina was predeceased by her husband, Martin Meyer and a brother, Clause Sengsaken.

Kathrina’s family includes one nephew, Joahanna Sengsaken in Flogen, Germany; two nieces, Anna Zipkas of Oakdale, L.I., NY, and Erna Cusick of Huntington, L.I., NY; four grandnieces and one grandnephew and many friends. 

Funeral services will be Friday at 4:00 p.m. at the Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 SR 81, Greenville, NY  12083. Friends may call at the funeral home prior to the service from 2:30 to 4 p.m. 

As to her wishes, Kathrina will be cremated and join her husband in the Maple Grove Cemetery in Kew Gardens, NY.

ANN “SHEILA” GALEA 

Ann “Sheila” Galea, 70 years, of Greenville, New York, passed away on August 18, 2006 at the Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson, New York. She was born in Queens, New York, on July 30, 1936, daughter of the late William and Anne (Morrison) McPherson.

Sheila was a homemaker and will be remembered as the lady walking to Bryants and the Greenville Post Office in all kinds of weather. She was predeceased by a daughter, Alison Giardinn.

Surviving are a daughter, Valerie Loverro and her husband, Robert, of Princeton Junction, New Jersey; and three grandchildren, Anthony and Anne Marie Gordon and Danielle Loverro.

Funeral service will be Tuesday, 1 p.m., at the Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 SR 81, Greenville, New York. Interment will be in the Greenville Cemetery.

FREDA (JANE) NIKONCYK

Freda (Jane) Van Hoesen Nikoncyk, 84 years, of Coeymans Hollow, New York, passed away on Monday, August 21, 2006 at St. Peter’s Hospital in Albany, New York, with her family by her side.

Jane was born in Ravena, New York on June 29, 1922, daughter of the late Frederick and Agnes (Smith) Van Hoesen. She moved to Brooklyn in 1935 until 1945 when she moved back upstate to Coxsackie before permanently residing in Alcove, in 1948. There she began to enjoy painting, wall papering, care giving for several family members, canning, bowling, ceramics, rug hooking, camping, vegetable and flower gardening, volunteering at clam bakes, taking her “Sunday rides”, making her homemade applesauce and spending time with family and friends.

In addition to her parents, Jane was predeceased by her husband of 54 years, Michael Nikoncyk, and her first husband, Fred W. Hart; married February 18, 1942; KIA in WWII, November 27, 1943; sisters, Gertrude Ennis, Marie Decker and Charlotte (Polly) Vermilyea; and brothers, Ernest, Donald and Nelson (Duke) Van Hoesen.

Jane is survived by a daughter, Joy Hart Seufert and her husband, George R.; grandchildren, AnneMarie Witkowski and her husband, Matt, Robert Michael Seufert and (Jen), Deborah Jane Seufert and (Ken); a sister, Isabelle Perry; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Funeral service will be Friday at 11 a.m. at the Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 SR 81, Greenville, NY 12083. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. Interment will be in the Alcove Cemetery.

A special thanks to her Dr. “Eric”, Guardian Angel, Cindy, and all those who helped.

WYNNE B. HAALAND

Cairo – Wynne B. Haaland, 65 years, of Cairo, NY passed away suddenly on Aug. 25, 2006 at the Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson, NY. She was born in Blauvelt, NY in Nov. 2, 1940 daughter of the late Walter B. and Jane (Vanderbilt) Zaumseil. Wynne had retired from Verizon having worked in Catskill, NY as an operator. She was an avid gardener and loved to paint watercolors and draw. She also loved spending time with her family and watching her grandchildren grow.

Surviving are her beloved husband of 44 years. Torner, daughters, Kari Diehl and her husband Jeffrey of Cocoa, FL, Kym Miner of Cairo, NY, Amy Haaland of Delmar, NY, Mia Haaland of Barhamsted, CT and son Steven Haaland and his wife Patricia of Cairo, NY, her grandchildren, Kaysee Diehl, Kristine and Michael Miner, Rebecca and Kristofer Haaland, her beloved pet and companion, Zeke, also a sister Elsa Schweizer of Essex, NJ, a brother Walter Zaumseil, Jr, of Elmira, NY as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was also pre-deceased by a brother James Zaumseil.

Funeral service were Tuesday 11 AM at the Cairo Resurrection Lutheran Church, RT23B, Cairo, NY. Friends were invited to call at the Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 SR81, Greenville, NY on Monday 6 to 9pm. Those who desire may contribute in her memory to the Resurrection Lutheran Church Memorial Fund.
