John Balis Stone
Located near the intersection of Rte 23 and Rte 32. The stone is propped against a tree. In 1884, when the History of Greene County was published by J.B. Beers, a small cemetery with about 15 headstones marked the spot. Most stones were fieldstones according to Beers. All have disappeared by 1999, with the exception of the headstone for John Balis. His year of death and age at death are unreadable from the stone. These dates have been located in the Beers text.

Sacred to the memory of Mr. John Balis who died Dec. 10th A.D. 1789 in the 48th year of his age.

But children dear prepared to be,
